Technology, Automation & Generative AI among Indonesian Enterprise Leaders

Indonesia is experiencing a surge in interest and development in artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics. While still in its early stages, the country is actively positioning itself as a leader in the responsible use of these technologies. 78% of Indonesian enterprises are planning to invest in big data analytics in the next 2-4 years and 70% are planning to invest in artificial intelligence.

We get a glimpse of some earlier movers in the country, including PERTAMINA EP , Telkomsel , PT XL Axiata Tbk and PT. Indosat Tbk (IOH) Ministry of Finance, Republic of Indonesia as finalists of the 2024 ASEAN (Indonesia) Enterprise Innovation Awards at the AIBP Working Group: Technology, Automation & Generative AI in Indonesia’s Digital Economy hosted at Astra International.

Pertamina, Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas enterprise, leverages big data and AI to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in its fuel distribution network. Pak Sigit Pratopo presents A Breakthrough Analytic Initiatives for Enhanced Control of Government-subsidised Fuel Distribution: Exception Signals and Workflow Management in Pertamina Retail Business.

As part of its downstream business, Pertamina distributes subsidised fuel to ease the public's financial burden and support economic growth. However, misuse of subsidised fuel, such as hoarding and selling to industrial players at lower prices, is prevalent. To combat this, Pertamina launched the INOVASI digital initiative, an exception-based automation platform that monitors and detects anomalies in fuel distribution using big data and AI. This system enhances transparency, efficiency, and accountability, enabling rapid intervention and preventing fraud. In addition to the subsidised fuel use case, this platform also supports the upstream sector in monitoring oil well performance, reducing loss production opportunities (LPO) and production optimization. Furthermore, this platform is also currently being used in managing Solar Panel performance ratios at Pertamina Power New & Renewable Energy Sub-holding.

Telkomsel’s Data-Driven Nation: Accelerating Indonesia's Digital Transformation with Telco Data Insights leverages its telco big data capabilities to support data-driven decision-making across government and business sectors including education, tourism and transportation, as shared by Pak Diko Aldillah Patiwiri

Processing over 40 petabytes of data daily with its vast national coverage and 158 million subscribers, Telkomsel aimed to fill the gap in accurate and reliable data for government policy-making and business decisions. Aligning with Indonesia's vision for "Indonesia Emas" by 2045, Telkomsel supports data-driven decisions across sectors. Key initiatives include Mobile Positioning Data (MPD) for tracking tourist movements, enhancing national transportation planning with tSurvey, and supporting higher education research. These efforts have improved tourism planning, transportation efficiency, and academic research quality.

IOH launched several products in various sectors and established an SMB digital ecosystem, positioning itself as an innovative industry leader.

Implementing National Single Window In Indonesia Through National Logistics Ecosystem (NLE), Pak Fachry Rozy Oemar from the Ministry of Finance seeks to streamline logistics operations, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and enhance stakeholder collaboration through unified digital platforms.

Facing challenges like lengthy processes, redundant paperwork, and fragmented systems, NLE aimed to streamline operations, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance collaboration among stakeholders. Key initiatives include Single Submission Perizinan (SSm) for unified licensing, SSm QC for customs and quarantine documentation, DOSP2 Online for digital delivery orders, SSm Pengangkut for maritime logistics, and Single Billing for simplified payments.

We will be delving deeper into data and AI applications for Indonesia's Digital Economy at the upcoming AIBP Conference & Exhibition Indonesia this 6 August in Jakarta - be part of the conversation and sign up here.
