Vongsey Vissoth, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, underscored Cambodia’s vision of leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for environmental protection and sustainable prosperity while emphasising China’s call for deeper collaboration to share AI benefits and address its challenges.
The remarks were made during the symposium on “China-ASEAN Cooperation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development and Governance,” held at the Friendship Building of the Office of the Council of Ministers on Monday. The event was co-organised by the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) and the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS).
In his opening address, Vissoth described AI as more than a digital innovation, defining it as an interdisciplinary force connecting science, governance, economics, and culture. He highlighted the distinction between digital technology and AI, noting that while AI forms a critical subset of digital technology, its ability to learn, adapt, and make decisions sets it apart.
“This distinction is essential as we shape policies and frameworks to govern AI effectively while harnessing its potential to drive innovation across multiple sectors,” he said.
