The Mounting Landscape of Phishing Scams in Malaysia

The Malaysian Reserve | 23rd January 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23- PHISHING scams in Malaysia are emerging again and evolving as cyber security threats, with attackers employing increasingly sophisticated techniques to exploit human vulnerabilities.

These scams target individuals and organisations by leveraging trust and creating a false sense of urgency.

According to Cyber Security Malaysia (CSM), phishing attacks are becoming more contextual and localised, often mimicking trusted entities such as government programmes, popular e-commerce platforms and financial institutions.

CSM CEO Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab underlined that these scams frequently impersonate legitimate organisations, including government aid programmes, offering financial benefits to lure victims into providing sensitive information or clicking on malicious links.
