CYBERSECURITY Malaysia recorded 18,130 cyber security professionals as of January 2025.
Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said this positive development demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing initiatives and reaffirms Malaysia’s commitment to building a resilient and future-ready cyber security workforce.
“Bridging this gap requires a multi-stakeholder approach. We must strengthen partnerships between academia and industry, introduce dynamic training programmes that keep pace with technological advancements and cultivate a culture of continuous learning,” he said at the Cyber Digital Services, Defence and Security Asia (CyberDSA) 2025 soft launch today.
Wilson explained that cyber security is no longer just a technical or IT issue but a national security imperative, an economic enabler and a fundamental pillar of trust in the digital age.
A single breach can disrupt economies, erode public confidence and inflict significant financial losses.
He said from ransomware targeting financial institutions to cyber espionage infiltrating government agencies, the risks are as real as they are unprecedented.
“New tactics like cryptojacking have also emerged, where cybercriminals use victims’ computers to mine cryptocurrency without their knowledge. This method requires no ransom and has proven highly profitable,” he said.
Meanwhile, Aerosea Exhibitions Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin said CyberDSA 2025 is targeting 8,000 trade visitors from 30 countries, 80 VIP delegations, 150 participating companies and 100 expert speakers.
The event, themed “Pioneering the Future of a Resilient Digital Nation”, will tackle artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrencies and emerging technologies, while shaping industry policies and standards.
