[Press Release] AI Governance, Digital Economy, and Workforce Transformation to Take Centre Stage at AIBP Conference & Exhibition 2024

Jakarta, Indonesia, 23 July 2024 - The AIBP Conference & Exhibition, supported by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics and the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, will tackle key tech issues and opportunities in Indonesia. Held at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan, the event will gather industry leaders, policymakers, and community members to encourage innovation, teamwork, and partnerships.

A press briefing today outlined some of the main topics for this year's AIBP Conference & Exhibition.

AI Governance and Regulation: Addressing Public Concerns and Building a Robust Framework

Although AI offers many benefits, public concern about its use remains high. To tackle these issues, strong regulations are needed, particularly concerning privacy and intellectual property. Effective AI governance involves collaboration between policymakers, industry leaders, and the community to ensure ethical and practical AI use.

The ongoing 2024 AIBP Innovation Survey highlights that 82% of Indonesian respondents view privacy and security concerns as major barriers to AI adoption. Addressing these challenges is crucial for accelerating AI innovation in Indonesia.

Digital Economy and Skills Development: Bridging the Skill Gap

Indonesia’s digital economy holds great promise with the right support in training and infrastructure. Bridging the skill gap through extensive digital training is key to unlocking the full potential of AI and automation technologies. Strategic investments in unified data platforms, data analytics, business intelligence software, and enhanced connectivity will drive significant digital transformation and progress.

Ethical and Practical AI Use: Overcoming Implementation Hurdles

Applying ethical guidelines to AI, especially in sensitive areas such as elections and social media, is critical. However, practical challenges in implementing AI technologies ethically and securely remain significant. The event will serve as a platform to discuss and address these issues.

According to the ongoing AIBP Innovation Survey results, 8% of Indonesian enterprises report that Generative AI is significantly transforming their business, compared to 18% of Thai enterprises. This gap highlights an opportunity for Indonesian businesses to enhance their understanding of AI and accelerate their AI initiatives to unlock new business opportunities.

AI and Automation in the Workforce: Managing Job Displacement and Sectoral Impact

Automation poses a threat to employment, necessitating strategic workforce transition and retraining programs. The ongoing 2024 AIBP Innovation Survey shows a rise in AI adoption among Indonesian businesses, with 63% creating AI-focused strategy and roadmap and 67% exploring the use of AI for process automation. As industries encounter varying degrees of disruption, automation strategies must be personalised. The conference will address these challenges and explore ways to ensure a smooth transition for the workforce.
