[Press Release] Pertamina and Isuzu Astra Indonesia Win 2024 ASEAN Enterprise Innovation Award, Showcasing Projects on AI-Driven Fraud Prevention and Operational Efficiency

Jakarta, 06 August 2024 -  The annual ASEAN Innovation Business Platform (AIBP) Enterprise Innovation Awards received 113 submissions from public and private organisations throughout Southeast Asia, out of which 56 projects were selected as finalists. Since 2017, the awards have aimed to recognise Southeast Asian-based organisations that have embarked on projects to digitally transform their businesses through the adoption of innovative technology.

Notably, more than 40% of submissions involved some aspect of artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML). Many organisations in Southeast Asia, particularly consumer-facing businesses, are exploring the use of AI/ML. The recent rise of generative AI has opened up a range of questions about the utility of this technology.

Pertamina and Isuzu Astra Motors Indonesia emerged as the winners from Indonesia for the Data and AI category and the Open category, respectively, and received their awards at the AIBP Conference and Exhibition, and received their awards at the AIBP Conference and Exhibition, held on 6 - 7 August, at the Ritz Carlton, Mega Kuningan.

Pertamina's winning project focuses on sustaining national energy resilience. To address misuse and fraud in subsidised fuel distribution, Pertamina launched the INOVASI platform, powered by big data analytics and AI. The platform processes around 15 million fuel transactions daily, using custom rules and AI techniques like news sentiment analysis to detect anomalies. This has prevented approximately 3.5 million litres of subsidised fuel fraud daily. INOVASI's data and AI capabilities also optimises solar panel performance and upstream oil well operations, supporting Pertamina's strategy of maintaining its business legacy while advancing a low-carbon future. Pertamina, established in 1957, is Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas corporation with US $75.9 billion in revenue. It plays a crucial role in the country's energy sector, not only in the extraction and production of oil and gas but also in the development of new and renewable energy sources.

Isuzu's winning project is centred around a comprehensive digital transformation under the Isuzu Monozukuri principle, emphasising data analytics, automation, and the Internet of Things (IoT). This initiative aims to ensure zero-mistake operations by implementing real-time quality audit management, inline inspections, and torque management. The use of big data analytics for predictive and preventive analyses, allows  precise monitoring of over 200 suppliers and efficient management of the production process. Utilisation of digital tools help provide centralised data monitoring, while mobile devices and IoT elements facilitate detailed product traceability and quality control. This transformation has reduced manual work, improved administrative efficiency by 25%, and achieved a 99.8% product quality standard. Founded in 1974, Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) is a key player in Indonesia’s automotive industry, serving as the sole agent, manufacturer, and distributor of Isuzu vehicles.

Pertamina and Isuzu Astra Motors Indonesia join the list of illustrious past winners, including Bank Mandiri, Sampoerna, Telkom Indonesia, Kalbe Farma, Bank Negara Indonesia, and Blue Bird Group, among others
