AI Between Tool and Threat

ANTARA | 27 July 2024

Jakarta (ANTARA) - AI ( Artificial Intelligence ) or what people know as artificial intelligence is slowly starting to replace the role of humans, and there are even several jobs that are starting to be replaced by the presence of this technology.

For example, photo or video editors that now have a lot of AI technology offer solutions even without paying. The results are undoubtedly extraordinary even without corrections are ready to be enjoyed.

You may still remember the electronic card technology that replaced the role of toll collectors, which at that time raised the issue of massive layoffs. Something similar could happen now if AI later replaces the role of electronic cards.

Tools for humans can be used to ease work but on the other hand can also be used to commit crimes or for other negative things. AI as a tool is already in front of our eyes, it is up to the user's policy what to do next to produce quality work or to "damage".

This is what made the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs hold the ASEAN Innovation Business Platform (AIBP) conference and exhibition which discussed the main technological challenges and opportunities in Indonesia.

The event held on August 6 and 7 also discussed public concerns regarding the presence of AI. The government itself, related to the development of AI technology, is committed to presenting strong regulations, especially regarding privacy and intellectual property.

Effective AI governance involves collaboration between policymakers, industry leaders, and the public to ensure the ethical and practical use of AI. The ongoing AIBP Innovation Survey 2024 highlights that 82 percent of Indonesian respondents view privacy and security issues as major barriers to AI adoption. Addressing these challenges is critical to accelerating AI innovation in Indonesia.
